The Chinese Society of International Law (CSIL) held its annual academic conference on "World Multi-polarization, Economic Globalization and the Chinese International Law Study" in Beijing from May 24 to 25, 2007. State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan attended the conference and made important instructions on how to implement the spirit of the central meeting on foreign affairs work and strengthen the study and application of international law in the diplomatic work.

Tang stressed that international law is closely linked to the diplomatic and foreign affairs work and a sharp weapon of maintaining national interest. The research and application of international law should take into account the domestic and international situations, follow the spirit as well as principles and policies of the central meeting on foreign affairs work, concentrate on the core task of national development, integrate theoretical study with diplomatic practice, strengthen theoretical study on the building of a harmonious world, cope with new situation, study emerging problems and seek new solutions in a bid to promote the building of a well-off society in an all-round way, seize the major strategic opportunity period of China, push forward China's peaceful reunification and maintain national sovereignty, security and development.

He also instructed the foreign ministry and other related governmental agencies to extend further support for the CSIL, pay full attention to the basic construction of China's international law undertaking, help the organization overcome difficulties and jointly push for new achievements of research and application of international law in China.
