On February 29, 2008, Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei held diplomatic consultations with Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and met with Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukerjee in New Delhi.

Both sides made positive comments on the achievement of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to China last month and exchanged opinions on how to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and promote the in-depth development of China-India strategic partnership. They agreed to maintain the high-level political exchanges, expand the mutually-beneficial economic and trade cooperation, broaden cooperation and exchanges in such fields as defense, energy, finance, agriculture, culture and education and strengthen coordination and collaboration in international and regional affairs.

The Indian side reiterated its adherence to the one-China policy, opposition to "Taiwan independence", refraining from supporting Taiwan's membership in the United Nations in any name and in any form and indicated it would not allow the "Tibet independence" force to sabotage the torch relay in India.

The two sides also exchanged views on the international and regional issues of common interest including climate change and energy security.
