On April 17, 2022, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte over a typhoon that battered the Philippines.

Xi Jinping said, he was shocked to learn that the Philippines was hit by the typhoon, which has caused heavy casualties and property losses. On behalf of the Chinese government and people as well as in my own name, I would like to express deep condolences to the victims of the disaster and extend sincere sympathies to the bereaved families and the injured. China stands ready to provide assistance to the Philippine side within its capacity, and believes that under the leadership of President Duterte and the Philippine government, the people in the disaster areas will surely defeat the disaster and rebuild homes.
