On August 3, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn in Phnom Penh.

Prak Sokhonn noted that the recent act by the US has encroached upon China's sovereignty, violated the commitment it has made, escalated tension across the Taiwan Strait, and fully exposed its say-do gap and hegemonism. Cambodia firmly upholds the one-China policy, believes that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, supports China's legitimate positions on domestic affairs including Taiwan, Xinjiang and Xizang, and supports China’s effort to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, and respond firmly to the provocative moves of the US.

Prak Sokhonn said the leaders of Cambodia and China have maintained close communication, injecting strong momentum into Cambodia-China relations. He thanked the Chinese side for providing long-term staunch support for Cambodia’s effort to pursue a development path suited to its national conditions, accelerate economic development, and improve people's livelihood. Cambodia stands ready to consolidate the ironclad friendship with China, and push for new achievements in the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Wang Yi appreciated the Cambodian side upholding justice, and underscored that the rights and wrongs about the current tension across the Taiwan Strait are crystal clear, and that it is the US that has encroached upon China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and it is still the US that has undermined stability across the Taiwan Strait. Many countries have clearly expressed their firm commitment to the one-China principle, and their support for the Chinese side's legitimate positions. Wang Yi said that supporting each other in safeguarding respective core interests is what the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership is essentially about. China is ready to work with ASEAN countries to safeguard the most basic norm governing international relations, that is, non-interference in others' internal affairs, uphold international fairness and justice, and preserve the hard-won peace, stability and development in the region.

Wang Yi said in the face of the turbulent international situation, it is of great significance for China and Cambodia to strengthen solidarity and coordination. The more complex the external environment is, the more firmly we should stay committed to managing our own affairs well and developing the China-Cambodia friendship well. The Chinese side supports the Cambodian side in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and national dignity, and stands ready to take the negotiation and signing of the new action plan for building a China-Cambodia community with a shared future and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to carry forward the traditional friendship forged by the elder generations of leaders of both countries, and to further progress the building of a community with a shared future, so as to open up a new future for the friendly relations between the two countries.

The two sides exchanged views on strengthening coordination on regional affairs. Wang Yi said that China supports Cambodia in fulfilling its responsibility as ASEAN rotating chairmanship, and in successfully hosting the series of foreign ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation. China is ready to work with Cambodia and other ASEAN countries to ensure the implementation of the consensus reached at the ASEAN-China Special Summit to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, and to reach consensus on the action plan of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership at an early date, so as to inject more and strong impetus into bilateral cooperation across the board.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Myanmar issue.
