Wang Yi Holds Phone Conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

On September 8, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian at request.

Wang Yi said that under the guidance of the two heads of state, China-Iran relations have demonstrated a momentum of development in an all-round way. No matter how the international landscape may change, the Chinese side will follow the direction identified by the two heads of state, unswervingly develop relations with Iran, continuously expand pragmatic cooperation in various fields, strengthen coordination and collaboration in international and regional affairs, and work towards new progress in the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership.

Abdollahian wishes the convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China a success, and expressed condolences to the Chinese side over the earthquake in Luding, Sichuan. Abdollahian said that the Iranian side hopes to maintain high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, deepen pragmatic cooperation in agriculture and other fields, strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, and promote the continuous development of Iran-China relations. The Iranian side supports the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping.

Abdollahian briefed on the latest progress of the negotiation on resuming the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, saying that the Iranian side is always committed to reaching an agreement, but will not accept the attempt of the US side to achieve its goals through bullying. The Iranian side thanks the Chinese side for its support.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese side will continue to support the Iranian side in safeguarding its legitimate and lawful rights and interests. The Chinese side believes that the Iranian side has the wisdom to properly respond to possible changes, firmly safeguard its legitimate and lawful rights and interests, keep standing on the international moral high ground.
