Wang Yi Meets with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla

On September 19, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said that China and Cuba are good friends, good comrades, and good brothers with mutual trust and a shared future. The heads of state of the two countries have built their friendship and maintained close communication. The Chinese side stands ready to work with Cuba to follow the guidance of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen unity and cooperation, and consolidate and develop the special friendship between China and Cuba. The Chinese side thanks the Cuban side for its firm support for China in safeguarding China's core interests, and the Chinese side also firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its sovereignty and independence, and firmly supports the country in accelerating development and rejuvenation, and believes that Cuba will make new and greater achievements on its path of socialist development.

Wang Yi stressed that the two sides should further strengthen strategic alignment, advance Belt and Road cooperation in a steady manner, expand cooperation in agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, and other fields, and translate the high-level political mutual trust between the two countries into more outcomes in practical cooperation.

Rodríguez wishes the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China a full success. He thanked the Chinese side for the long-term support for Cuba’s national course of  justice and for the solidarity and assistance when Cuba suffered from the pandemic, disasters, and other difficult times. Cuba is glad about the profound friendship and political mutual trust between the heads of state of the two countries, and supports the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and a series of other important initiatives put forward by the Chinese side. Cuba will continue its firm commitment to the one-China principle, unswervingly support the positions of brotherly China on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang, and oppose all anti-China practices driven by political factors, and expects to further deepen Cuba-China relations of mutual benefit.

Wang Yi said that the current international landscape is fraught with crises and mess, but good prevails over evil, solidarity means strength, and perseverance means victory. We are fully confident in the bright prospects of the progress of the human society, and stand ready to work with Cuba and other developing countries to strengthen unity and coordination, uphold fairness and justice, and jointly respond to global challenges, and promote common development and prosperity.
