Recently, President Xi Jinping replied to a letter from renowned Cuban scientist Pedro A. Valdes-Sosa.

Commending Pedro A. Valdes-Sosa’s longstanding commitment to enhancing the special friendly relations between Cuba and China, and promoting China’s scientific research cooperation with other countries, President Xi Jinping extended congratulations to Valdes-Sosa and his team on having achieved many breakthroughs.

Xi Jinping stressed that international cooperation in science and technology is a major trend. All countries need to work jointly  to promote peace and development for humanity through scientific and technological innovation. Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative that he proposed, Xi said the ultimate purpose and goal of this initiative are to explore new ways for countries from near and far to achieve common development, and to blaze a "path to happiness" that will benefit all countries and the world at large. Over the past decade, China and the participating countries have accelerated scientific and technological exchanges and knowledge sharing, continuously improved the innovation environment and pooled innovation resources, and sped up cooperation in scientific and technological innovation with remarkable results.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the traditional friendship forged by the elder generations of Chinese and Cuban leaders has been growing from strength to strength and yielding fruitful results. Since last year, the two sides have reached important common understandings on jointly building a China-Cuba community with a shared future. Xi Jinping expressed his sincere hope that China-Cuba cooperation in various fields including science and technology will continue to deepen and bring more benefits to the two peoples in the new era.

In his recent letter to President Xi Jinping, renowned Cuban scientist Valdes-Sosa briefed Xi on his team’s achievements in promoting brain-science research and China-Cuba neurotechnology cooperation in China, and expressed his readiness to continue to contribute to promoting China-Cuba friendship and implementing the Belt and Road Initiative on a larger scale across the globe.
