On November 5, 2023, President Xi Jinping sent a letter to the sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Xi Jinping pointed out that since its debut in 2018, five editions of the CIIE had been successfully held. It has leveraged the strengths of China's enormous market, fulfilled its role as a platform for international procurement, investment promotion, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and open cooperation, and made positive contributions to accelerating the building of the new development paradigm and promoting world economic development.

Xi Jinping stressed that in the face of a sluggish global economic recovery, all countries need to pull together to tide over difficulties and seek common development. China will continue to be an important opportunity for global development, and will firmly advance high-standard opening up and work for an economic globalization that is more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial to all. Xi Jinping expressed the hope that the CIIE will work better and faster as a window on China’s effort to build a new development paradigm to share with the world the new opportunities presented by China's new development, fully leverage its role as a platform for advancing high-standard opening up to make China's big market a market shared by all, and better provide international public goods and services to be shared by the world to help build an open world economy and let the world benefit from win-win cooperation.

Hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the sixth CIIE, themed "New Era, Shared Future", opened in Shanghai on that day.
