2023-11-26 23:55

On November 26, 2023 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Park Jin on the sidelines of the China-Japan-ROK Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Busan, the ROK. The two sides confirmed the positioning of the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership and expressed willingness to continue to move forward in this direction.

Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than 30 years ago, China-ROK relations have seen comprehensive and rapid development, and the two sides have helped each other succeed and prospered together, bringing huge benefits to the two peoples and making positive contributions to regional peace and stability. Recently, major changes have taken place in the international and regional landscapes, and many new situations have emerged in China-ROK relations. However, China and the ROK are neighbors that cannot move away, and this objective fact will never change. Both sides benefit from good bilateral relations and suffer otherwise, and this is also common sense that will never change. The development of China-ROK relations should always keep to the general direction of friendly cooperation, and this represents a question both sides must answer well, which is compulsory and not optional. China is ready to work with the ROK to strengthen exchanges and communication, stick to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, adhere to mutual respect and mutual trust, remove external interference, confirm the positioning of the strategic cooperative partnership, and continuously add new dimensions to it.

Wang Yi pointed out that China and the ROK have become cooperative partners with highly integrated interests as well as highly embedded industrial and supply chains. With a complete industrial system and a super huge market, China will implement higher-standard opening-up, which will continue to provide new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the ROK. The two sides should jointly resist the tendency of politicizing economic issues, instrumentalizing scientific and technological issues, and overstretching the concept of security of economic and trade issues, maintain stable and unimpeded industrial and supply chains, and work for greater development of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Park Jin expressed congratulations on China's successful hosting of the Asian Games in Hangzhou. The ROK government attaches importance to the ROK-China relations, and believes that the ROK-China strategic cooperative partnership is in line with the interests of the two countries and two peoples and is willing to continue to move forward, which is a clear position of the ROK. The ROK stands ready to strengthen dialogue and communication with China at various levels, deepen economic and trade cooperation, maintain the stability of the supply chain, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and constantly achieve new progress in the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. While strengthening bilateral cooperation, the ROK and China can also work together for peace and stability in East Asia and the world at large. Noting that the ROK-China-Japan Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting resumes after a hiatus of more than four years, he expressed the expectation that the meeting will achieve positive results and deepen trilateral cooperation.

Wang Yi said that China supports the ROK in hosting the China-Japan-ROK Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting and is willing to work with the ROK and Japan to jointly strive for a new start in trilateral cooperation.

The two sides had an exchange of views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, among others. Wang Yi emphasized that China has always been a stabilizing force in the situation in Northeast Asia and has always played and will continue to play a constructive role in easing the situation on the peninsula.
