Li Qiang Holds Talks with Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne

On the morning of January 24, 2024, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council held talks with Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne, who is on an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Qiang said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 41 years ago, China and Antigua and Barbuda have always respected and supported each other. China stands ready to work with Antigua and Barbuda to implement the important common understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries, consolidate and carry forward the traditional friendship, continuously deepen strategic mutual trust, and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields to better benefit the two countries and two peoples.

Li Qiang pointed out that China and Antigua and Barbuda are both developing countries. China stands ready to work with Antigua and Barbuda to achieve common development, continue to actively advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen cooperation on agriculture and infrastructure, among others, and tap into the potential of cooperation in the green, blue and digital economies and other fields to foster new driving forces for economic development. The two sides should strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation in the fields of tourism, civil aviation, medical and health care, and human resources and consolidate the foundation of people-to-people friendship between the two countries. China is ready to provide assistance within its capacity to Antigua and Barbuda in addressing climate change within the framework of South-South cooperation, and continue strengthening multilateral coordination and cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Browne said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Antigua and Barbuda and China, bilateral relations have maintained strong development momentum. Antigua and Barbuda appreciates China's strong support for the economic and social development of Antigua and Barbuda over the years and supports important initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping such as the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative. Antigua and Barbuda abides by the one-China principle, believes that Taiwan is a province of China, and firmly supports China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Antigua and Barbuda stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China in such fields as agriculture, education and infrastructure development, advance deeper cooperation between the Caribbean Community and China, promote the reform of the global economic governance system, jointly cope with climate change and other global challenges, elevate bilateral relations to a new level and push for common development of Global South countries.

After their talks, Premier Li Qiang and Prime Minister Browne witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents on Belt and Road cooperation, trade, transportation, economic development, mutual visa exemption, climate change response, and others.

Prior to the talks, Li Qiang held a welcoming ceremony for Browne at the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

Wu Zhenglong was present at the meeting.

On the afternoon of the same day, Browne laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes.
