Ding Xuexiang and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak Co-chair the 20th Meeting of the China-Russia Energy Cooperation Committee

On December 15, 2023, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Ding Xuexiang and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak co-chaired the 20th meeting of the China-Russia Energy Cooperation Committee in Beijing.

Ding Xuexiang said that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, China-Russia energy cooperation has formed an all-round, wide-ranging and high-level cooperation pattern, creating a model of equal and mutually beneficial practical cooperation between China and Russia. China is ready to work with Russia to follow through on the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, build a high-level energy cooperation partnership, continuously enhance the resilience of the energy industrial and supply chains, promote high-quality development of energy cooperation, push for more practical outcomes of energy cooperation, and promote the development of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.

Ding Xuexiang made a three-point proposal on deepening China-Russia energy cooperation. First, consolidate energy trade and mutually beneficial cooperation, promote the construction and stable operation of oil and gas projects, and build nuclear energy projects with high standards and high quality. Second, actively expand new areas and directions of energy cooperation, deepen cooperation in renewable energy, hydrogen energy, energy storage, smart energy and carbon market, among others, and deepen integrated cooperation in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the energy sector. Third, strengthen global energy governance, practice true multilateralism, and make greater contributions to the long-term, sound, stable and sustainable development of the global energy market and the building of a global partnership for clean energy cooperation.

Alexander Novak said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, Russia-China relations have seen high-level development and practical cooperation in various fields has been steadily advanced. Russia is ready to work with China to follow through on the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, deepen energy cooperation in all aspects, strengthen multilateral coordination, and jointly safeguard the stability of the global energy market and industrial and supply chains.
