Chen Laiping, Consul & Head of Post (Right 1) was presenting gift to President Pascua

On 27 June 2007, with its invitaion, Chen Laiping, Consul & Head of Post and other consular officials from the Chinese Consulate in Laoag visited Mariano Marcos State University of Ilocos Norte Province. Warmly welcomed by the university, Chen met the  President Dr. Miriam E. Pascua, Vice-President and other adminisrative officials. The two sides discussed about bilateral cooperation in education and academic research.

Chen first thanked President Pascua for her friendly invitation and said, Mariano Marcos State University was a national-wide famous university, its effective faciliies, experienced teachers and beautiful campus rendered great attraction to Chinese students. By great efforts, the Consulate would like to serve as a bridge between the University and Chinese students, providing information and seeking opportunities. The Consulate was willing to assist and promote the university in developing interuniversity exchange with Chinese universities like teacher retraining program, academic research cooperation, exchanging students and establishing sister-university relations. Chen belived that the exchange and cooperation between Mariano Marcos State University and Chinese education institute would have a bright future.

President Pascua warmly welcomed the visit of the Consulate Officials, and agreed on the preliminary suggestion put forward by Chen. She said, the university was very looking forward to the mutual-beneficial cooperation with Chinese education institute in various forms.

Located in Batac City, Ilocos Norte, Mariano Marcos State University covers a 300-hectare area and enjoys branch campuses in in Currimao, Paoay and Dingras, and the Northern Luzon State College (NLSC) in Laoag City. The Mariano Marcos State University (website: www.mmsu.edu.ph) was establish in 06 January 1978 by Presidential Decree (PD) 1279 and named after the father of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos. It has 450 teachers, more than 500 staff and one thousand students.

As a comprehensive institution of higher learning in the Ilocos region, Mariano Marcos State University has set subjects in agriculture, forestry, electronics, tourism, business management, marine science, and it's leading in accountancy, education and nursing over the philippines. The university also provides Mandarin courses and has set up a Chinese Study Centre and established cooperations with University of Hawaii and University of Tokyo.
