Chen laiping visited the Province of La Union

On December 17, 2007, Chen Laiping, Consul & Head of Post and Zheng Xin, Consular Attaché paid a friendly visit to Province of La Union and met Gov. Manuel Ortega.

Chen said, about 1000 years ago, Chinese people from southern part of China came to the Philippines, especially the province of La Union to do business. La Union witnessed the longstanding history of relationship between the two peoples. The establishment of the Chinese Consulate in Laoag was to further enhance bilateral friendly relations, and it was a great pleasure and opportunity for all consular staff to work here, together with the provincial government to promote China-Philippine friendship. Chen Highly appreciated the support and help rendered by Gov. Ortega and the provincial government to local Chinese communities.

Gov. Ortega warmly welcome the delegation and looked forwarded to Chinese investment to develop local economy in particular.

Chen also visited the provincial police office of La Union, inspected local Chinese communities, Cultural Institute, the Chinese School of La Union and the 5 Chinese teachers there. Highly speaking of the continuous efforts of local Chinese communities in developing Chinese education and upholding Chinese culture, Chen encouraged voluntary Chinese teachers to work hard and contribute to China-Philippine cultural exchange and the cultivation of Filipino elites.
