Chen Laiping met the Fil-Chinese community in Vigan and visites University of Northern Philippines

On March 11, Chen Laiping, Consul & Head of Post paid a visit to Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, inspecting local Filipino Chinese community and Vigan Nan Chong School. Chen was warmly welcomed by the Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, 1st District of Ilocos Sur.

Meeting with local Filipino Chinese community, Chen thanked for their hospitality and admired their contribution to the social and economic development of Ilocos Sur. Chen wished local Filipino Chinese could enhance their ties with China and actively promote Chinese tradition and culture in the province. Chen said, the Consulate would keep touch with local Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, join hands together to further promote China-Philippine friendly relations and the profound friendship between the two people.

Visiting University of Northern Philippines, Chen met Dr. Lauro Tacbas, President of UNP and donated 400 books and video disks covering Chinese politics, economy, culture and education, etc to the university library. Chen said, he wished these books and disks would help the university in academic research and widen the university faculty and students' knowledge of China. University of Northern Philippines is a comprehensive university establishing fairly complete college majors and having good teachers in Northern Luzon region of the Philippines, the consulate would keep contact with the university and actively introduce UNP to Chinese Universities and promote bilateral exchange and cooperation.

Dr. Lauro Tacbas thanked Consulate for its kindness and generosity, and expressed his interests in the idea of open university. He was willing to visit China and look for opportunities of developing bilateral cooperation.
