The Consulate of People's Republic of China in Laoag City Donated Hybrid Rice Seeds to Farmers Hit by "Ineng"

On April 29, the Consulate of People's Republic of China in Laoag City conducted a Handover Ceremony to donate five (5) tons of Hybrid Rice Seeds from China, and provide training course to hundreds of typhoon affected farmers in the Province of Ilocos Norte. Hon. Maria Imelda "Imee" R. Marcos, Governor of Ilocos Norte, Hon. Albert D. Chua, Chair of Committee on Agriculture, Mr. Cheng Liangji, Co-Director of the Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology (PhilScat), Dr. Carlos Abon, TPDD Head of PhilScat, leaders of the Filipino-Chinese Community in Laoag City, officers from the Provincial Government and Department of Agriculture, and 280 farmers from different municipalities were in attendance in the event.

 

 
 

 

In his remarks, Zhao Qiaoliang, Consul and Head of Post, gave importance to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two peoples of China and the Philippines. He said the friendliness, hospitality and great potential of Ilocanos inspired him and as such promised to enhance communications and continue helping people in the province.
 
 

Additionally, Hon. Imee Marcos, spoke highly of the efforts and assistance of the Chinese Consulate when the province was in a State of Calamity. "There was immediate response from the Consulate when I asked them for help," the Governor candidly recalled. Governor Marcos thanked the Chinese Consulate for their aid and support throughout the years and hopes for long lasting cooperation.

 

 

The given rice seeds are a part of an aim to rehabilitate the livelihood of farmers in the locality. Approximately 10 to 15 tons per hectare are expected to be harvested from the Hybrid Rice Seeds from China. The donation and training course is a testament to the commitment of the Consulate of People's Republic of China in Laoag City to the sociable and welcoming Ilocanos.
