Chinese New Year Reception Held at the Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel

To celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival- the Lunar New Year of the Rooster and to mark the assumption of office as the new Consul and Head of Post at the Chinese Consulate in Laoag, Mme. Wang Jianqun and her husband hosted a dinner reception at the Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel on January 21st, 2017. The Hon. Governor of Cagayan Province Mr. Manual Mamba, Hon.Vice Governor of Ilocos Norte Mr. Eugenio Angelo M. Barba and mayors and deputy mayors of several cities, leaders of the various Chinese associations in the consular area were among the 200-odd guests attending the grand reception.

In her welcoming remarks, the new Chinese Consul and Head of the Post Mme. Wang Jianqun briefed the audience on China's achievements in the social and economic development in the past year, emphasizing China's resolve of deepening reform and opening up in the coming years. She also shared her thoughts on the "Belt and Road Initiative" put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 for international and regional cooperation. On China-Philippines relations, she said the state visit to China by Philippines President Duterte was a great success. Now the bilateral relations and cooperation were developing on the right track. With 13 cooperative documents sighed, the China-Philippines friendly relations and cooperation had entered a new stage of development bringing benefits to both countries and peoples. There was a big potential yet to be tapped in the mutually beneficial cooperation between the northern provinces and cities of the Philippines and China in such areas as infrastructure development, cultural and educational exchanges as well as tourism. Consul Wang committed herself to reach out and work diligently with the provincial and city authorities in consolidating friendship and forging closer ties and cooperation during her tenure of duties in Laoag.

Vice Governor Angelo Barba, on behalf of Hon. Governor Imee Marcos, and Mme. Mary Ang, President of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ilocos Norte Chapter, on behalf of all Chinese community also made warm and touching remarks at the reception. They extended their congratulations on the Chinese New Year and warmly welcomed the arrival of the new Chinese Consul and Head of Post Mme. Wang Jianqun and her husband. They all mentioned the bilateral traditional friendship and the importance of culture sharing between the Filipinos and Chinese and expressed the wish to continue working with the Chinese Consulate in Laoag for fostering closer friendship and cooperation in the future.
