Chinese Consul and Head of Post to Laoag Mme. Wang Jianqun Visited the Province of Isabela

At the invitation of the Hon. Faustino "Bojie" Dy III, Governor of the Province of Isabela of the Philippines, the Chinese Consul and Head of Post to Laoag Mme. Wang Jianqun paid a friendly visit to the Isabela Province on August 15 to 16, 2017.

 
 

 Consul Wang Addresses the Filipino-Chinese Community

 

During the two-day visit, Consul Wang met with Hon. Governor Dy III, Hon. Joseph S. Tan, Mayor of Santiago and Hon. Evelyn C. Diaz, Mayor of Ilagan. Consul Wang briefed the local leaders on the current China-Philippine relationship and China's "Belt and Road" initiative. Both sides agreed that exchanges and cooperation between local governments of China and the Philippines are important component part of the overall relationship between the two countries which ought to be further strengthened. They would work together to tap the potential of regional cooperation in the fields of agriculture, culture and education and tourism.

Consul Wang also met with leaders and representatives of the local Filipino-Chinese community and attended their welcoming functions. In her public address, Consul Wang spoke about the recent development of China-Philippine relationship and China's foreign policies on the Philippines and ASEAN as well as China's new measures for deepening reform.

Consul Wang visited four local Chinese schools, namely, Santiago Cultural Institute, Nan Sing High School, Yeh Chiau School and Ilagan Chung Hua Institute. Faculty members and students of these schools gave Consul Wang a memorable welcome with dragon and lion dances and other traditional Chinese performances. Consul Wang attended some classes and had a dialogue with the students. Consul Wang met with the Chinese volunteer teachers who live and teach at these four schools.

Consul Wang also attended the welcoming ceremony of the Santiago Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade who used the occasion to baptize the two new fire engines they acquired recently with the help of the Chinese Consulate in Laoag.

The Province of Isabela is the second largest province in the Philippines. There have been frequent exchanges between Isabela and China in recent years. The Hon. Governor Dy III visited China in 2013.
