The Chinese Consul and Head of Post Mme. Wang Jianqun Attended the Chinese New Year Celebrations in Baguio

At the kind invitation of Hon. Mayor Domogan of Baguio, the Chinese Consul and Head of Post Mme. Wang Jianqun attended the Chinese New Year celebration activities in Baguio on February 17th, 2018.


The grand Chinese New Year parade starts

This year marked the 20th anniversary of holding the Chinese New Year celebration activities by the City of Baguio in collaboration with the various Chinese community associations in this mountainous city. As a result, the number of activities and participants all surpassed the previous years.

The grand Chinese New Year parade started around 3:00pm. As Guest of Honour, Consul Wang fired the starting gun together with Hon. Mayor Domogan. The two and Hon. Congressman Mark Go together with Chinese community leaders walked in front of the parade which was composed by lion and dragon dances, beauty pageant and colourful floats, etc. As a traditional way of expressing best wishes for the Chinese New Year, chief hosts and honoured guests scattered candies and goodies to the thousands upon thousands of spectators lined on both sides of the main streets. The whole downtown of Baguio was submerged in the sea of cheers and happiness.

In the evening, a gala dinner party was held at the ballroom of the Hotel Supreme. In her Chinese New Year message, Consul Wang highly commended the efforts made by the city government of Baguio and the various Chinese community associations in hosting the Chinese New Year celebrations for the past two decades. "These activities greatly promoted the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and the Filipinos." she said. At the dinner, glamourous Chinese and Philippine songs and dances were performed. The annual recognition prizes were given to seven winners who made outstanding contribution to the city in the fields of environmental protection, law and order, education, etc. Hosts and guests toasted each other for a Chinese Lunar New Year of the Dog full of happiness, health and wellbeing.
