On February 10, 2020, Consul and Head of Post Zhou Youbin of Chinese Consulate in Laoag met with former Senator Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos. The two sides exchanged views on the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus pneumonia in China.

Former senator Marcos said that the Chinese government has responded quickly in fighting this outbreak by adopting different preventive and control measures and by actively cooperating with international experts. He supported China's fight against the outbreak and looked forward to an early victory.

Consul Zhou thanked Marcos for his support to China in such a difficult time. He  said, due to the rapid response, effective measures and international support, significant results were achieved. The spread of the epidemic was controlled, the growth rate of confirmed cases slowed down, and the number of discharged patients increased.  He said that under the strong leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping, China has the determination, confidence, and ability to win against this epidemic.
