On September 2, 2020, upon multi-party coordination, the Chinese Consulate in Laoag, Ilocos Norte and Shandong Province held a video exchange meeting.

Present in the meeting were Mr. Sun Yebao, the Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Province together with their officials from the Provincial Education Department, Shandong Normal University, and Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as well as Board Member of Ilocos Norte Mr. Saul Lazo and the officials from the Provincial Education Department, Provincial Sustainable Development Center, and Mariano Marcos State University.

At the meeting, the two parties discussed and exchanged views on post-pandemic cooperation regarding education and Maize planting. Shandong province will continue to offer scholarship to Filipino students to support their study in Shandong.
