On March 11, Consul & Head of Post Zhou Youbin was invited to attend the "Duterte Legacy Caravan" event in Barangay 1, San Francisco, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. The event was initiated by the San Nicolas Police Station and invited all sectors of society to donate relief and production materials to families in need.

In his speech, Consul Zhou said that since President Duterte took office in 2016, he has put the interests of his country and its people first, has worked diligently, and won widespread love from the people, enjoying a high approval rate among Filipinos.

President Duterte's legacy is very rich, and the development of friendly and cooperative relations with China is undoubtedly one of his most important legacies.

President Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping have maintained a good personal friendship. They have exchanged visits many times. The cooperation between the Philippine government's "Build, Build, Build" project and China's "Belt and Road" initiative has also achieved fruitful results. In connection to this, 15 projects have been completed, and more than a dozen are under way, involving billions of dollars.

At present, China is the Philippines' largest trading partner and the second largest source of foreign investment. The people of both countries have benefited from the improvement of China-Philippine bilateral relations and the development of their economic cooperation.

Likewise, whenever typhoons, floods, earthquakes and other disasters strike, China and the Philippines, together with their people, always help and support each other, and have weathered difficult times together.

After  the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, China donated or provided 57 million doses of vaccines providing huge support to the Philippines in its fight against the pandemic.

Consul Zhou added that the Philippines is about to hold a general election, and he believes that the new government will inherit and carry forward Duterte's legacy, continue to promote China-Philippine friendly cooperation, focus on economic recovery, and bring tangible benefits to the lives of their people.
