On October 16, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Wang Yi said that Hungary is the first European country that signed inter-governmental agreements on Belt and Road cooperation with China, and the Belt and Road cooperation between China and Hungary has yielded fruitful results and boosted their respective development in the past decade. China highly appreciates Hungary for adhering to China-Hungary friendship, and upholding justice on issues involving China's core interests, and looks forward to deepening political mutual trust with Hungary, expanding practical cooperation in various fields such as infrastructure, economy, trade and investment, and finance, accelerate the advancement of important projects and constantly elevate China-Hungary relations to higher levels.

Wang Yi said that China and the EU are partners rather than rivals, and their common understandings far outweigh their differences. Adhering to the right direction of China-EU relations is in alignment with the common and fundamental interests of the two sides. China is ready to work with the EU to promote the sustained and sound development of China-EU relations, and inject more stability and certainty into the world fraught with changes and turbulence. China appreciates Hungary's support for the development of China-EU relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, and hopes that Hungary will continue to play a constructive role in this endeavor.

Péter Szijjártó said that solid mutual trust and friendly cooperation between Hungary and China have been translated into tangible outcomes, delivering tremendous benefits to the Hungarian people. Hungary will continue to actively participate in Belt and Road cooperation and stay firmly committed to deepening Hungary-China and EU-China cooperation in various fields. Hungary firmly opposes decoupling or severing industrial and supply chains, and the so-called "de-risking" is, on the contrary, essentially exposing Europe to risks. Hungary highly appreciates China's voice for peace on the Ukraine issue, supports China's position and proposition on the political settlement of the Ukraine issue, and believes that China will continue to play an important role in promoting peace.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on the Palestine-Israel conflict. Wang Yi emphasized that the two-state solution is the biggest common ground and the ultimate means of resolving the Palestine-Israel issue. The international community should promote de-escalation and ceasefire of the situation as soon as possible, and avoid a severe humanitarian disaster. Relevant parties should get back to the track of negotiation, resume the consultation on the two-state solution, and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East region.
