On October 16, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Wang Yi said that China and Turkmenistan have close high-level exchanges and solid mutual trust. This year, the two heads of state jointly announced the elevation of China-Turkmenistan relations to the comprehensive strategic partnership, which has acted on the concept of a community with a shared future on the bilateral level, realized a new positioning of bilateral relations, and opened up a new era of cooperation between the two countries. China is ready to work with Turkmenistan to follow the guidance of the consensus of the two heads of state, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across the board, and bring the China-Turkmenistan comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Wang Yi said that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) put forth by President Xi Jinping is in alignment with the development trend of the times, and has been widely applauded and supported by the international community. China is ready to work with other parties to take the hosting of this Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation as an opportunity to explore cooperation with BRI partners in various fields and realize mutual complementarity, mutual benefit and win-win results. Turkmenistan is a key partner of Belt and Road cooperation. Wang Yi expressed the belief that Turkmenistan will inject new impetus into major cooperation between China and Turkmenistan through its attendance at the Forum and promote new progress in landmark projects between the two countries.

Rashid Meredov said that Turkmenistan speaks highly of the strategic significance of Turkmenistan-China relations, and cherishes the high-level relationship between Turkmenistan and China and the profound friendship between the people of the two countries. The two heads of state attach great importance to Turkmenistan-China mutually beneficial cooperation and guide the advancement of strategic projects between the two sides. Turkmenistan looks forward to further tapping potential for cooperation in various fields and pushing forward the sustainable development of the Turkmenistan-China comprehensive strategic partnership. The third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is a major event with worldwide significance. Turkmenistan actively supports and participates in the BRI, and hopes to strengthen the alignment between the strategy to revive the Great Silk Road and the BRI, and enhance connectivity in the Eurasian region. Turkmenistan highly appreciates China's leading role in international governance, and will be a participant in China's series of important global initiatives, and walk side by side with China.
