Wang Yi Meets with Former Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key

On November 6, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with former Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key in Beijing.

Wang Yi said, the Chinese side appreciates Mr. John Key for elevating the China-New Zealand relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and making important contributions to the development of bilateral relations during his tenure as Prime Minister, and hopes and believes that Mr. John Key will continue to play a positive role in enhancing China-New Zealand friendship.

Wang Yi said, China and New Zealand are friends who trust each other and partners with mutually beneficial cooperation. China-New Zealand relations have long been at the forefront of China's relations with Western countries, creating multiple "first" records. Mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and New Zealand fully serve the interests of the country and people of New Zealand, and the sustained and steady growth of bilateral relations has also injected stable factors into the region. China is ready to establish good working relations with the new government of New Zealand, strengthen high-level exchanges, jointly open a new chapter in China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership and work for new achievements in China-New Zealand cooperation.

John Key said, he is very glad to have the opportunity to visit China many times as Prime Minister of New Zealand and is committed to promoting the development of New Zealand-China relations. He believes that the new government of New Zealand will continue to attach great importance to relations with China, adhere to the one-China policy, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China. He also expressed willingness to make efforts to achieve better development of New Zealand-China relations.
