On December 7, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation SOK Chenda Sophea, who was in China to attend the 8th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia and the "China-Cambodia Year of Friendship". President Xi Jinping has met with King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Manet twice and maintained strategic communication with Prince Hun Sen, fully reflecting the uniqueness and high level of China-Cambodia relations. The two countries took the lead in signing the new version of the action plan on building a China-Cambodia community with a shared future, which has played an exemplary role in promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. Wang Yi extended congratulations on the 70th anniversary of Cambodia's independence, and said that he is glad to see the remarkable achievements of the new Cambodian government in its first 100 days in office under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet. China will always be a trustworthy and reliable friend of Cambodia, and will continue to support Cambodia in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, support Cambodia in defending national sovereignty, independence, and national dignity, and support the new Cambodian government in maintaining stability, developing economy, and improving people's livelihoods. To this end, China is willing to provide assistance to the best of its ability.

Wang Yi emphasized that in the face of complex changes in the international and regional situation, China and Cambodia should unswervingly run their own affairs well, unswervingly develop China-Cambodia friendship, and unswervingly follow the path of solidarity, cooperation and win-win results. The two sides should give full play to the role of high-level strategic leadership and steer the course for the building of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future. Both sides should follow through on the high-level common understandings of the two countries, deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and promote the "fish and rice corridor" and the "industrial development corridor" to achieve more visible results, so that China-Cambodia practical cooperation will bring more benefits to the people of the two countries. Next year marks the "China-Cambodia Year of People-to-People Exchanges", and both sides can take this opportunity to expand personnel exchanges and nurture the foundation of friendship. China is ready to work with Cambodia and other countries to jointly crack down on online gambling, telecom fraud and transnational crimes, thoroughly eradicate relevant criminal gangs, and safeguard social stability in regional countries.

SOK Chenda Sophea said that the Cambodian side attaches great importance to Cambodia-China relations, thanks China for its long-term support, and will not forget the help China has provided to Cambodia in fighting the pandemic. On the path of Cambodia's development, China has been a partner all along, and Cambodia has benefited from its cooperation with China in achieving economic and social development as well as safeguarding national independence. Prince Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet met with President Xi Jinping several times and reached important common understandings on strengthening the building of a Cambodia-China community with a shared future and promoting cooperation in various fields. The Cambodian side is actively implementing the common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, and is willing to take the "Cambodia-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges" next year as an opportunity to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges and attract more Chinese tourists to visit the country. Noting the infrastructure construction between Cambodia and China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has brought tangible benefits to the Cambodian people, SOK Chenda Sophea said that the two sides should further strengthen cooperation to refute the attacks and smears against the BRI by some forces outside the region with successful practices.

The two sides agreed to work closely to make the 8th LMC Foreign Ministers' Meeting a success and promote LMC to achieve greater development.
