On September 4, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Italian Vice-President of the Council of Ministers Antonio Tajani attended the 11th Joint Meeting of the China-Italy Government Committee together. In his summary remarks, Wang Yi spoke highly of the achievements in China-Italy cooperation in various fields.

Wang Yi said that in recent years, thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, China-Italy relations have maintained high-level development and are at the forefront of China-Europe relations. The leaders of the two countries have maintained close exchanges, steering the development of bilateral relations and consolidating the foundation of mutual trust. The China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism has been splendid, with "Tota Italia - Origins of A Nation" attracting over 300,000 Chinese people. The two countries have supported each other in hosting the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. The millennium-old friendship inherited from the ancient Silk Road has grown with new vitality. Belt and Road cooperation has yielded fruitful results. In the past five years, the bilateral trade volume between China and Italy has increased from 50 billion U.S. dollars to nearly 80 billion U.S. dollars, with Italy's exports to China growing by about 30 percent. Leveraging platforms such as the China International Import Expo and China International Consumer Products Expo in Hainan, various quality Italian products have entered Chinese households. The first China-built large cruise ship under China-Italy cooperation has set sail smoothly, and Italian enterprises' participation in the CR929 wide-body passenger aircraft project is progressing smoothly. The two sides have formed two rounds of key project lists of third-party market cooperation.

Wang Yi said that in the face of new circumstances and opportunities, China is willing to work with Italy to uphold openness and win-win results, focus on practical cooperation, promote inclusiveness and mutual learning, and achieve greater development of the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership.
