President of Cote d'Ivoire Alassane Ouattara Meets with Wang Yi

On January 17, 2024 local time, President of Cote d'Ivoire Alassane Ouattara met with visiting Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Abidjan.

Alassane Ouattara asked Wang Yi to convey his best wishes to President Xi Jinping, saying that he highly appreciates President Xi Jinping's governance philosophy and deep concern for the people, admires China's remarkable achievements in national development, and thanks China for shouldering responsibilities as a major country on the issue of peace and development. He expressed pride in the country's friendship with great China and the strong relationship between Cote d'Ivoire and China. The cooperation between Cote d'Ivoire and China in various fields has made encouraging progress and China has become Cote d'Ivoire's largest trading partner and source of investment. Alassane Ouattara thanked the Chinese side for providing valuable support for Cote d'Ivoire's infrastructure development and improvement of people's livelihood. Cote d'Ivoire will continue to prioritize its relationship with China and looks forward to learning from China's successful experience, expanding cooperation in various fields, and pushing for more follow-up actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to be implemented in Cote d'Ivoire for the greater benefit of the two peoples.

Alassane Ouattara stressed, Cote d'Ivoire's position on the Taiwan question is clear. That is, there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China. He stated that Cote d'Ivoire will continue to abide by the one-China principle.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President Alassane Ouattara. He congratulated Cote d'Ivoire on successfully hosting the 34th Edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, saying that it is a grand event for the African people and a source of pride for Cote d'Ivoire. China delivered its assisted main stadium to Cote d'Ivoire on time and with high quality, and the bridge built by it in Abidjan has become a new landmark for the country, symbolizing mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides and representing China-Africa friendship. China highly appreciates Cote d'Ivoire's support for China's efforts in safeguarding national unity and territorial integrity. China will continue to speak out on issues concerning Cote d'Ivoire's core interests and major concerns. China is ready to jointly implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and continuously push the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Cote d'Ivoire to a new level.

Wang Yi said, since the founding of the FOCAC more than 20 years ago, bilateral cooperation has embarked on a fast lane and made historic achievements, giving a strong boost to Africa's development at a faster pace and making joint contributions to world peace and stability. Noting China is speeding up its efforts to advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts by pursuing Chinese modernization, Wang Yi said China is ready to work with African countries to explore effective ways that suit their respective national conditions, preserve their independence, and achieve common development and prosperity, striving together for modernization.

During his visit to Cote d'Ivoire, Wang Yi also held talks with Foreign Minister of Cote d'Ivoire Kacou Houadja Leon Adom.
