Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi Meets with Wang Yi

On January 14, 2024 local time, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with visiting Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Cairo.

Wang Yi first conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings, and said that the two heads of state have established solid mutual trust and deep friendship, which is the strongest strategic guarantee for China-Egypt relations. Under the care and guidance of the two heads of state, China and Egypt have been consolidating political mutual trust, yielding fruitful results from pragmatic cooperation, and acting as responsible major countries in international and regional affairs, and have brought bilateral relations to the "fast lane" and reached the "best level" in history. The Chinese side congratulated President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on his reelection by a high number of votes, which demonstrates the support and trust of the Egyptian people. Wang Yi expressed the belief that Egypt will make new and greater achievements on the path to national development and rejuvenation.

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi asked Wang Yi to convey his great respect and sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. He expressed congratulations on China's great development achievements under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and its increasingly important role in international affairs. China is a great country, and no country or force can stop China's progress. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reiterated that Egypt will always adhere to the one-China principle and oppose any interference in China's internal affairs.

Expressing his gratitude to China for its strong support for Egypt's economic and social development, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that the Belt and Road cooperation between Egypt and China has achieved remarkable results. Egypt attaches great importance to its comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and is willing to establish a closer partnership with China and expand cooperation in various fields. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi thanked Chinese enterprises for making important contributions to Egypt's national construction and economic development, and expressed that more enterprises are welcome to invest in Egypt.

Wang Yi expressed his gratitude to Egypt for its support for China's legitimate position, and said that China also firmly supports President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's leadership in guiding the Egyptian people to pursue a development path that suits the country's conditions, firmly supports the Egyptian side in opposing external interference and safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests, and firmly supports Egypt in pursuing an independent foreign policy, and playing a more important role in international and regional affairs. China appreciates Egypt's positive response to Belt and Road cooperation. China will be a long-term and reliable strategic partner in Egypt's development and revitalization process. China is ready to take the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries as an opportunity to strengthen the alignment of both sides' development strategies, promote pragmatic cooperation to achieve greater results, and work together to advance respective modernization.

The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen communication and cooperation within frameworks such as BRICS and the United Nations. Noting that Egypt is a major Arab, African, Islamic and developing country, Wang Yi once again congratulated Egypt on becoming a new member of the BRICS. China is ready to work with Egypt to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on the Palestinian-Israeli situation, agreeing that a ceasefire and an end to violence should be achieved as soon as possible to prevent the conflict from further spilling over.

On the same day, Wang Yi held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and signed the second five-year implementation outline of the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership.

During the visit to Egypt, the two sides issued a Joint Statement between China and Egypt on the Palestinian Question.
