On January 29, 2024 local time, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Bangkok.

Wang Yi conveyed the cordial greetings from Chinese leaders to Srettha Thavisin, saying that China appreciates Srettha Thavisin's decision to make China the first country outside ASEAN for a visit after taking office, which fully reflects the great importance he attaches to China-Thailand relations and has brought the traditional friendship between the two countries even closer while deepening the tradition that China and Thailand are as close as one family. The leaders of the two countries have outlined the blueprint for building a China-Thailand community with a shared future, opening a new chapter in the friendly cooperation between China and Thailand. Thailand is an important country in the region. China is glad to see Thailand play a positive role in promoting regional stability and world peace. As China and Thailand are comprehensive strategic cooperative partners, strengthening friendship and mutual trust between the two sides will provide a further guarantee of peace in Asia; strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides will add impetus to regional development; accelerating the building of a China-Thailand community with a shared future will provide more bright prospects for the future of mankind.

Wang Yi said, China always sees Thailand as a priority in its diplomacy with neighboring countries and his current visit to Thailand is to implement the common understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries, promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, and strengthen the tradition that China and Thailand as close as one family. Wang Yi said, he held an in-depth consultation with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara on Sunday, and the two sides agreed to further strengthen mutual support. The Taiwan question is a matter of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China. China appreciates Thailand's upholding of the one-China principle and believes that Thailand will continue to understand and support China's cause of reunification. China will also continue to support Thailand in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security and achieving development and revitalization. China is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with Thailand, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, take the opportunity of mutual visa exemption to promote two-way tourism, and deepen pragmatic cooperation in areas such as economy, trade and investment. The two sides should jointly advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, speed up the construction of the China-Thailand Railway, open the central line of the Trans-Asian Railway, realize regional connectivity, and promote the early implementation of the vision of interconnected development of China, Laos and Thailand, so as to provide new impetus and open up new space for the long-term development of the two countries.

Srettha Thavisin asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to Chinese leaders. Srettha Thavisin said that Thailand attaches great importance to its relationship with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy. The agreement on mutual visa exemption signed between the two sides during Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit will facilitate closer economic, trade, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, deepen friendship between the two peoples and bring the already close relationship between Thailand and China even closer. Thailand will actively participate in Belt and Road cooperation. Srettha Thavisin expressed the hope the competent authorities of both countries will strengthen communication and accelerate related projects to enhance regional connectivity. As the year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, both sides should make early plans, maintain high-level exchanges, promote cooperation in various fields and push for greater development of bilateral relations.

Following the meeting, Wang Yi and Srettha Thavisin jointly attended the signing ceremony of a protocol regarding the export of Thai agricultural products to China.

During his visit to Thailand, Wang Yi also held the annual consultation with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara and met with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand.
