On January 16, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi left Tunisia, and upon invitation, visited Togo. When Wang Yi arrived at Lomé-Tokoin International Airport, Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey, who made a special trip to greet him, told Wang Yi as soon as they met that Togo firmly upholds the one-China principle and supports the Chinese government's position on the Taiwan question. The Togolese government has issued a special announcement, stressing that there is only one China in the world and that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and Taiwan affairs are China's internal affairs. Togo fully supports China in safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Wang Yi said, true friends support each other at critical moments. Expressing thanks to Togo for its support of China's just position, Wang Yi said China will also continue to firmly support Togo in safeguarding sovereignty, security and development interests, and jointly safeguard non-interference in internal affairs, which is a basic norm governing international relations.
