On February 19, 2024 local time, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón met with visiting Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Madrid.

Wang Yi said, China and Spain solemnly celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year, and leaders of the two countries reviewed the successful experience of bilateral exchanges and charted the course for future development from a strategic perspective. Standing at a new starting point, China stands ready to work with Spain, in the spirit of mutual trust, mutual respect, equal treatment, and win-win cooperation, to usher in a more glorious 50 years of bilateral relations. China and Spain, as comprehensive strategic partners with important international influence, should demonstrate a sense of responsibility and inject more stability into the turbulent and intertwined world.

Wang Yi said, he had in-depth discussions with Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno on Sunday, and the two sides reached broad common understandings, reaffirmed the positioning of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership, and agreed to continue to understand and support each other's core interests and consolidate the strategic foundation of bilateral relations. China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with Spain, strengthen the alignment of development strategies, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and step up people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to lift bilateral relations to new heights.

Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón said that Spain and China have maintained close high-level exchanges, adding strong impetus to bilateral relations.
