Wang Yi Holds Talks with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno

On February 18, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno in Córdoba.

Wang Yi said, the visit comes at the beginning of the next 50 years of China-Spain relations, which is an important year for summarizing experience and looking into the future. The two sides should strengthen strategic communication, intensify high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation and push for greater development of China-Spain relations in the next 50 years. Spain is a major country in Europe and a member of the European Union (EU), and has important international and regional influence. China is ready to work with Spain to view bilateral relations with a global vision and from a long-term perspective, strengthen the foundation of mutual trust and mutual benefit, highlight the characteristics of strategic stability and practical cooperation, and keep China-Spain relations at the forefront of China-Europe relations. China appreciates Spain's adherence to the one-China principle and supports Spain in safeguarding its territorial integrity and national unity. Noting that China and Spain are comprehensive strategic partners and both support and practice multilateralism, he said both sides should strengthen coordination, join hands in tackling global challenges, and make new contributions to peace and development of mankind.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese market, growing rapidly and expanding in scale, will continue to open up to the world. The Chinese side welcomes the export of high-quality products from Spain to China. China stands ready to work with Spain to uphold openness and mutual benefit, provide solid support for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, build an open world economy, and advance a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.

Albares extended greetings for the Chinese New Year of the Dragon, saying that last year, the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and launched the Year of Culture and Tourism, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón paid a successful visit to China, and Spain also played the role as the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU in the successful hosting of the EU-China Summit. Spain consistently pursues the one-China policy, and stands ready to maintain high-level exchanges with China, activate bilateral cooperation mechanisms and deepen practical cooperation. Spain supports open and free trade, welcomes Chinese investment, and will provide a fair and sound business environment for enterprises from all countries.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in various fields including telecommunications, medical care, electric vehicles and green energy.

Both sides agreed to continue the positive effects of the Year of Culture and Tourism to enhance friendship between the two peoples. Spain highly appreciates China's visa-free policy for Spanish citizens, and thanks China for showing its trust and friendship. Spain will also actively promote the simplification of procedures for Chinese tourists visiting the country.
