On June 14, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan held consultation with Secretary General of the Belgian Foreign Ministry Jan Grauls. Kong made positive comments on bilateral ties, expressing hope that both sides will maintain high-level visits and personnel exchanges at other levels, give full play to the existing bilateral political dialogue mechanism and build up mutual trust. Kong urged both sides to deepen pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and other areas and push for continuous development of cooperation on science, technology, education and humanities. Grauls said bilateral ties are developing very well, pledging that Belgium adheres to the one-China policy and is ready to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in all areas. Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues related to China-EU ties, Kosovo, the Sudanese region of Darfur and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
