On the afternoon of September 7, 2023 local time, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met with President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Yoon Suk Yeol on the sidelines of the leaders' meetings on East Asia cooperation in Jakarta.

Li Qiang said that President Xi Jinping had an in-depth exchange of views with President Yoon Suk Yeol on China-ROK relations during the G20 Bali Summit last year. China stands ready to work with the ROK to follow through on the important common understandings reached by the heads of state of the two countries, uphold the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, enhance political mutual trust, steer clear of disruptions, move forward in the same direction and advance China-ROK relations in keeping with the times, so as to better benefit the people of the two countries and promote regional peace, stability, development, and prosperity.

Li Qiang noted that the two sides should adhere to the major direction of good neighborliness and friendship, continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and join hands to respond to difficulties and challenges. The two sides should also expand common interests, accelerate the efforts to promote the second phase of China-ROK free trade agreement negotiations, explore new and high technology, green development and low carbon, and other new growth points of cooperation, jointly keep industrial and supply chains stable and unimpeded, and constantly make the pie of cooperation bigger to better realize mutual benefits and win-win results. The two sides should respect each other's core interests and major concerns and safeguard the larger picture of China-ROK relations. China always supports the ROK and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in promoting reconciliation and cooperation, always stands for the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, and will remain committed to promoting talks for peace.

Yoon Suk Yeol wishes the Hangzhou Asian Games a complete success. He said that ROK-China relations have reached great development over the past 30 years, benefiting both countries and their people. The ROK is willing to work with China to strengthen communication and dialogue at all levels, deepen economic and trade cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other exchanges and cooperation, practice multilateralism and free trade, push for stable and sound development of ROK-China relations, and promote world peace and prosperity. The ROK is ready to work with China to strengthen coordination and advance ROK-China-Japan cooperation.
