Li Qiang Arrives in Jakarta to Attend Leaders' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation and Pay Official Visit to Indonesia

On the morning of September 5, 2023 local time, at the invitation of President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, the current ASEAN chair, and the government of the Republic of India, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council left Beijing by a chartered plane for Indonesia to attend the leaders' meetings on East Asia Cooperation and pay an official visit to Indonesia, and for India to attend the 18th G20 Summit. State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Wu Zhenglong and other members of his entourage left Beijing on the same plane.

On the afternoon of September 5, 2023 local time, Li Qiang's chartered plane landed at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The honor guards lined up on both sides of the red carpet to pay tribute, and local people in traditional costumes performed Indonesian folk dances to warmly welcome Chinese dignitaries. Indonesia's Coordinator for Cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Ambassador of China to Indonesia Lu Kang, and Ambassador of China to ASEAN Hou Yanqi, among others, greeted Li Qiang at the airport.

Noting his attendance at the leaders' meetings on East Asia Cooperation and official visit to Indonesia, Li Qiang said that this is his first visit to an Asian country as Premier of the State Council. China firmly supports ASEAN centrality in regional cooperation, firmly supports ASEAN in playing a greater role in international affairs, and stands ready to have in-depth exchanges of views with all other parties on major issues of regional cooperation, strengthen solidarity and coordination, share development opportunities, work together to respond to challenges, and continue to make East Asia an important engine for global development.

Li Qiang pointed out that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo, China-Indonesia relations have developed rapidly, setting a good example for developing countries seeking strength through unity and pursuing cooperation for common development. China is ready to work with Indonesia to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, forge a closer China-Indonesia community with a shared future, and promote integrated and mutually reinforcing modernization drive through high-level and all-round strategic cooperation, so as to inject more stability and new impetus into international and regional cooperation.

On the sidelines of the leaders' meetings on East Asia Cooperation, Li Qiang will attend the 26th China-ASEAN Summit, the 26th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit.

During his visit to Indonesia, Li Qiang will have a talk with President Joko Widodo, and attend Indonesia Sustainability Forum 2023 and other events.
